Diversity, Social Justice and Learning - 4.1 The unit Diversity, Social Justice and Learning had a positive impact on shaping my personal identity as an educator by encouraging reflection on my own experiences in school in comparison to students with a different background or experience. Whilst completing Assessment 1 in this unit I was able to challenge my understandings of education by putting myself in the shoes of an individual from a diverse cultural or linguistic background. This showed me the importance of acceptance and equity in a classroom, with all my pedagogical focus being around creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. |
Pedagogy for Positive Learning Environments - 4.3 The first assessment task of Pedagogy for Positive Learning Environments highlighted the importance of rapport and building strong teacher-student relationships as a form of behaviour management strategy. This concept was one of the driving factors in my improvement in behaviour management in the classroom on my Professional Practice Experience 2 with a correlation being seen between the more comfortable students felt in my classroom and the engaged and on task students were during lessons. |
Research, Teaching & Learning 1 - 4.4 At the beginning of the Master of Teaching (Secondary), the unit Research, Teaching & Learning 1 consisted of an assessment which encouraged critical analysis and reflection of the importance of a modern day educator in assisting all students in meeting educational needs, regardless of their background. In assessment 1, I was challenged to reflect on my own experiences in the classroom and my view on equity, which in turn assisted in forming my pedagogical approach. |
